We are looking for a skilled grant writer or experienced copywriter to help us review and refine an existing grant proposal. Our goal is to submit a polished, compelling application that clearly communicates our mission and meets funder expectations, and we need a volunteer with a strong writing eye to help us get there.
The project will begin with a kickoff meeting where we share the draft proposal and walk through it together, aligning on tone, expectations, and a realistic timeline. From there, the volunteer will independently review the document using the Track Changes function, identifying inconsistencies, continuity errors, and areas where the narrative could be stronger or clearer. They will then compile their recommended changes into a summary to share with our team before we move into edits.
The editing phase will involve up to two rounds of revisions, where the volunteer makes the agreed-upon changes directly to the document. We anticipate the full project will require two meetings of roughly one hour each, plus three to five hours of independent review and editing time, which fits comfortably within the two to five hours per week commitment.
As an added bonus, if the volunteer has previously worked with or successfully applied to specific grants, we would welcome their insight on additional funding opportunities our organization may qualify for. Experience reading and interpreting financial documents such as budgets or fiscal statements is also a plus, as grant applications often require this supporting material to be clearly referenced within the narrative.
iVector Academy is a nonprofit organization based in Elk Grove, California, dedicated to providing free, remote, industry-aligned training, mentorship, and hands-on project experience to high-potential students who lack clear pathways into the tech workforce. Established in September 2025, we are in a critical early stage where securing grant funding is essential to sustaining and expanding our programs, including free training seminars, project placements, mentorship sessions, and the tools students need to succeed. As a newly launched organization, we are currently facing a temporary budget deficit resulting from initial startup investments, and grant support will directly resolve this gap and allow us to onboard more students, deepen industry partnerships, and build a sustainable talent pipeline that benefits both learners and employers. A skilled grant writer volunteering with us will have an immediate and tangible impact, helping us secure the funding that keeps our mission moving forward and opens doors for students who deserve a fair shot at meaningful careers in tech.
We have already done the preparation work needed to set our volunteer up for success from the very first meeting. Our team has gathered a collection of previously submitted grant applications which will serve as strong reference material, giving the volunteer a clear picture of our organization's voice, funding history, and the way we have communicated our mission to funders in the past. These documents are organized and ready to hand over immediately so no time is spent searching for background materials.
Our team members will be actively involved throughout the entire project rather than simply stepping back and waiting for a finished product. Whoever the volunteer needs to speak with, whether that is our program lead, finance person, or executive director, will be made available to answer questions, clarify information, and provide any additional documents required. We want the volunteer to feel fully supported and never stuck waiting on information from our end.
We are committed to responding to any communication within 24 hours and will come to both meetings prepared with clear answers and decisions ready to be made, so the volunteer's time is always used productively. Our internal team has full buy-in on this project and understands the importance of being cooperative and responsive partners throughout the writing and revision process.
Once the grant proposal is written and finalized through our agreed revision rounds, it will be submitted directly to the funder by our target deadline. This is a real, active application with direct impact on our ability to fund our programs and serve our community, so the volunteer's contribution will have immediate and meaningful results.
