My goal for this Taproot project is to update our budget and coding systems in Quickbooks so that we can run accurate reports for our board of directors. We have an annual budget set up, but our coding system is outdated and transactions (both pledges and payments) are not linked accurately, so we are unable to create quarterly and year-end reports that accurately reflect various sources of income. This has made EOY budgeting and forecasting very difficult for our small (but growing) nonprofit newsroom.

Working with The Current through this process, the volunteer will help us track our financial growth accurately, understanding where we need to apply additional resources and where we are meeting our targets. In the longer term, this will help our nonprofit newsroom become financially sustainable and continue to serve the Lafayette community as a trustworthy source of news and information reported by real people who care about Lafayette and the people who live and work here.

My team has prepared for this project by creating budgets for 2025 and 2026 (not in Quickbooks). While it appears we cannot change codes for 2024, we would like to update by the end of the year so that we can accurately forecast and report throughout the 2025 and 2026 fiscal years.
