Brand Development
Boldly pursue a more effective national geospatial ecosystem.
We have conducted an internal exercise to identify our “DNA” and boiled it down to 3 words or phrases:
Visionary
Impactful
Better Together
The NGC consists of a 7-member Board, 2 officers (secretary, treasurer), and a Chief Operating Officer. We have no members. We will build coalitions to pursue national geospatial goals and have the ability to receive and manage funding from other sources to effectuate our goals.
We are a sister organization to the National States Geographic Information Council (NSGIC), a 501(c)6, consisting of state geospatial leaders and approximately 350 members. We expect that much of the work to accomplish goals identified by the NGC will be developed and operationalized through collaboration with NSGIC, along with other stakeholder organizations. The NGC brand should convey this connection to NSGIC.
NGC is unique among geospatial advocacy organizations in that other organizations are aligned with specific sectors (state, local gov, academic, engineers, planners, etc) while the NGC seeks to bring together broad coalitions of stakeholders from a mix of sectors for a more effective approach to solving the issues that cross-cut our geospatial discipline.
Additional materials describing the NGC may be found at https://nsgic.org/national-geospatial-collaborative/
In terms of branding, the NGC has adopted the following definition (from the Cambridge English Dictionary):
The act of making a product, organization, person, or place easy to recognize as different from others by connecting it with a particular name, design, symbol, set of qualities, etc.
Our initial scope of brand elements includes the following:
logo
colors
typeface
tag line(s)
letterhead
email template / signature block
This is a highly visible project that will impact us for a long time!
